New video material, fantastic! The uptempo song is actually commercially available on a Peggy Lee DVD, but the ballad had never been online before. This is my first time watching it -- a treat for sure. Thank you, Richard! Ivanby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board

Thank for keeping us informed. An additional word, meant for those among us who do not have a subscription (required in order to see the full article): you are in luck. The article has now been re-published in the Dylan site, in an extended version:by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
I just went to check, and was pleased to see four reviews. Of course, I for one am hoping to see more than four reviews before the year is over, but I’ll happily take four for the time being. It makes me especially glad to note that all four reviewers have given 5 stars to the album! Actually, while I'm at it, I might as well re-post all these reviews here: A wonderful and important reisby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board

On behalf of all fans of Peggy Lee here, thank you for sharing your mother’s interesting recollections with us. What a treat -- to count with a mom who put her life’s memories into writing, for posterity.by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Thanks for the friendly reply, Richard. I am in complete agreement with you: the official Facebook page for Peggy Lee is fantastic. It probably ranks among the very best ones for any singer. You too, have a great 2022 summer! Ivanby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Hi Richard, Because a long time has passed since your last comment above, I imagine that you have already figured out the following (but let’s point it out all the same): the current owners of the Sullivan catalog have been uploading to YouTube a huge string of video clips by all sorts of artists, including Peggy. They were very active from March to May. In this ongoing month of June,by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Hi Paul, Not having visited the board in a good while, I was pleasantly surprised to come across your message. Let me respond to your comments without further preamble. 1) That bit of information came from a gentleman who wrote to me about various old Peggy Lee CD items. I did query him about his allegation that this cardboard edition existed, and he protested that he had seen it with hisby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Hi Richard, This is mainly to warmly thank you for always keeping us informed about the new video clips showing up on YouTube -- this time around, the segment from the Danny Kaye show, as well as this performance of “Fever” that you are mentioning above. Did you hear about a DVD that was recently released in the UK, and which includes a full 1961 Peggy special, taped in the UK for theby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
It is a 1961 tribute to Harold Arlen: Not commercially available. If memory serves, it briefly showed up in YouTube; it doesn’t look like it is there anymore. The Paley Center for Media in NY and LA does have copies for in-site viewing. Ivanby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Thanks fort the kind words, Rgoettsch. Yours are all recommendations that I can only second -- enthusiastically so, in the case of the CDs from Capitol Jazz and Collectors’ Choice! (As for the World CD set, I was waiting for the person seeking advice to get back to us, so that we could recommend it as his third purchase, and as the conclusion of his exploration of Peggy’s transcription catby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Glad that you enjoyed Peggy Lee's Capitol transcription recordings. Next, try her McGregor transcriptions, which are from around the same period -- January 1945, to be exact. (The Capitol batch was recorded between 1946 and 1949.) It is actually a fairly small bunch -- less than 20. Almost all of them are found in the following CD: Note that one of the songs which you mentioned [“Sby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Quote:Markb37UKI had seen an announcement that there will be a DVD of a 1967 TV special being released which if I am not mistaken will be the Something Special show which has already been released previously. The DVD’s main program indeed consists of the special (but read my additional comments, further down below). Paul B, I remain pleased and relieved that you and Richard and Paul Brownsey and a few other fellow posters among us are still contributing to this board, thus keeping it somewhat active! ... So, don’t misunderstand my comments below as antagonistic, because nothing could be further from the truth. You know very well that you and I share the same passion. Having been a fan of the original 10CC version long before I listened to Peggy's interpretation, I was thrilled to hear her sing it, too. By the way, Peggy makes one alteration to the lyric. She changes the line about the stain that is supposedly hidden behind the picture on the wall. Of course, Peggy was not to confess to having any nasty stain on her room! Hi Richard, We would all be remiss if we didn't thank you for keeping us posted about new, interesting additions to the Peggy Lee video library at YouTube. I, for one, often find out about those new videos through your alerts. (I think I have said so before, but it bears repeating.) So, thank you! About this guest appearance in Paar's show ... I am looking for a photo of Peggy with Benny Golson. It appeared in an article about him that was published by the music magazine Crescendo International, May 1983 issue: In my previous computer, I used to have a very poor-quality scan of that photo, which I wanted for discographical purposes. (The computer recently went kaput, and that picture was among the losses that I incurred.)by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Yes. For me, Peggy Lee's "How Do You Erase a Memory" medley epitomizes torch singing, and is deserving of being cited in any history of that music sub-genre. Helen Morgan -- the 1920s vocalist who is often cited as the epitome of the torch singer -- popularized the act of interpreting love songs by the piano (or, in her case, while sitting on the piano): What Wouldn't I Do For That Man.by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Cate, my apologies: I should have put more thought into my earlier message, before posting it. Instead, no sooner did I notice the thread's topic (i.e., Billie's remarks about Peggy) that my mind went into "complaint mode." Let me clarify. I meant my comment as a complaint against press reporters and music fans in general. I was objecting to the reductionist manner -- or lack of context -by Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
I wish that Billie's negative comments weren't the only ones continuously being remembered (or, in some instances, repeated online without context). Billie is actually on record (I mean, in print), saying that she liked and enjoyed Peggy's singing. Billie said that she liked Peggy's singing at a time in which Billie's star was still shining bright, and her personal problems had not yet become knoby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Well, it took me 15 years, but I finally watched the scene from Alice Doesn't Live Anymore to which Tony was referring above! ... I caught part of the movie the other day on the TCM channel. I had completely forgotten that there was any connection between this film and our vocalist. In came the scene with Ellen at the piano, and right away I said to myself, "hmm, sounds so similar to Peggy'sby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
There are several incarnations of this medley out there. Whether extant or otherwise, nearly all the incarnations are from concerts, starting in the early 1960s and continuing into the early 1990s. The 1987 concert medley is particularly good, if I'm remembering correctly, but it seems to be gone from YouTube. Another can actually be found in YouTube right now; this one is from a mid-1970s NYby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
You are welcome, Richard. May I add that I too consider "I See You" an ideal and moving coda to Peggy's recording career? The album Moments Like This is, on the other hand, less than ideal, but it too has its moments. I enjoy its version of "Why Don't You Do Right" -- especially its closing. Ivanby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Well said, Cate, all of it. I love the sound of Peggy's voice during many different periods of her life, but my two top favorites are a) definitely the Decca years and b) around the year that you singled out -- the late 1960s. And I am another fan who loves the way she interprets "Don't Explain" on the documentary. In 1969, she made a fine studio recording of "Don't Explain" forby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
Richard's latest post made me suspect that, in my earlier message, I had probably mixed up Craig Russell with Jim Bailey. Having just double-checked, I can confirm that such is the case. Mea culpa; I confess to not having paid enough attention to the subject of Peggy's impersonators! Let me clarify. Rick Scott wrote: "There are three songs I love that Peggy sang but never recorded: Don't Cry Out Loud, The Wind Beneath My Wings and My Father's Eyes." I agree. At least, we are lucky that they have been preserved on CD and/or DVD. "Here's to Life" was another song that she interpreted when it was brand new, a few years after "The Wind Beneath my Wings." Yep. Used during litigation, there is actually documentation listing all the artists who suffered master losses. It's a huge list, and Peggy's name is indeed among those included. For us, the biggest hypothetical loss is "The Legend Of The Well," a song that Peggy is said to have recorded for her album Sea Shells, and which never saw release. However, even before the fire, attempts at locatby Iv - Peggy Lee Bulletin Board
